Why We Don't Donate Money

We receive requests for donations to many charitable and civic causes. Unfortunately, we cannot simply make a monetary contribution to any charitable, community or political organization due to the nature of our business. We are owned by the public – the citizens of the town on Middleborough. Our revenues are public funds which, by law, cannot be given directly to any such cause.

This doesn’t mean that we can’t support community work in some way. Actually, we have found a number of different ways to support community activities that benefit the citizens of our service area of Lakeville and Middleborough. These include:

  • Publicizing events and sharing information (non-fund-raising) in the “Town Lines” section of our bi-monthly customer newsletter, The Messenger. This is included in the bills of all electric customers in both towns.
  • Distributing printed information in our bills when we have room and enough notice.
  • Hanging banners and mounting temporary lighting for upcoming events.
  • Advertising in printed programs which promote and support an event or activity.
  • Providing labor and equipment for electric or trenching projects when time and manpower permits.
  • Participating in events in a way that can promote safe and efficient use of electricity & natural gas.

There may be many ways for us to help and we welcome any suggestion you have. We’ll be glad to do what we can to support your work.
