Our fleet is going green
Everybody’s talking about alternative fuel vehicles, or AFVs, in these times of
skyrocketing gasoline prices. At MG&E, our fleet has been “going green” for years
thanks to the natural gas alternative fuel — compressed natural gas (CNG).
Our gas division has four vehicles that run on CNG including
- a hybrid pickup truck that uses both natural gas and gasoline
- two work vans both dedicated CNG-only
- a sedan which is a dedicated CNG-only vehicle
Cars that use natural gas lower their emissions of carbon monoxide by almost 70% compared to gasoline. And natural gas is a true domestic fuel with more than 90% coming from wells in North America.
Now that Middleborough is home to a CNG fueling station on Route 44, anyone
in the area can own a hybrid or dedicated CNG vehicle. Local towns, cities and
state fleets can benefit as well by choosing this green alternative and saving when fueling up.
